Term Nihonji Description
dai, n. Large. Used in gekisai-dai, for example.
ippon, n. 一本 One point (i.e., a long cylindrical thing). One point (scoring). Note that ‘ppon’ (yes, two ‘p’s) and ‘hon’ are counters, and don’t necessarily mean fingers. ‘ippon’ could also refer to bottles of beer or rivers.
ireru, v. 入れる To put in, bring in, or insert force.
kanji, n. 漢字 Chinese character(s). In the context of Shinkyokushin, the logo with the descending characters 新極真会.
ni, particle. A particle roughly meaning “to” or “towards”, in the context of direction. For example, sensei ni rei (先生礼): A bow to the teacher.
nihon, n. 二本 Two points (i.e., two long cylindrical things). Not to be confused with Nihon 日本 (Japan). Nihon may also refer to two bottles of beer.
shō, n. Small item.
sono. その A grammar particle, used in the context of karate to count one part of an entire kata. Example: Taikyoku sono ichi 太極その1: “Great Ultimate” Part One.
